Omega-3 is a type of fat that looks slick 'n' slimy at room temp – and sure, all fats aren't created equal. Saturated, found in meats, are considered "bad." But, unsaturated fats, found in fish, are seen as "good" – like Omega-3 and Omega-6. Wholistic Pet's Wild Salmon Oil contains DHA and EPA (docosahexaenoic and eicosapentaenoic acid) to give your four-legged friend their necessary Omega-3s – essential to life and furr-ocious health. They're a must-have, since the body can't make its own, so your pet needs to get 'em from the diet.
YOUR PET’S HEALTH IS IN THE BALANCE
- Omega-3 and Omega-6 both work together to promote health. Maintaining an appropriate balance is important.
- Omega-3s, primarily found in fish oils, help support normal cardiovascular function.
- Omega-6s support healthy, supple skin. An ideal balance between Omega-6 and Omega-3 is approximately 5:1 or lower
However, diets heavy in saturated fats can push the ratio as high as 30:1, leading to some not-so-fun health issues. Plant oils' essential fatty acids need to be broken down before metabolizing, stealing up to 80% of those fatty acids! This means that, for some pets, plant oils may not supply needed DHA & EPA.
